Zelda Wii U Delayed, Won't Launch in 2015

Zelda's Eiji Aonuma apologizes for the delay, stating his priority is to create the "ultimate" Zelda game.

Zelda, and Wii U fans who were looking forward to that official Zelda Facebook page [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/video-games/conferences/e32014/11635-Zelda-Wii-U-is-Open-World-Coming-2015] announcing that the title has been delayed, and will no longer be launching in 2015.

"I must apologize to you all that were expecting the game by year's end, but we are no longer making a 2015 release our number one priority. Instead, our priority is to make it the most complete and ultimate Zelda game," said Aonuma.

The game will also not be shown at this year's upcoming E3 conference, which suggests that we won't see release until after next year's E3.

"As I have watched our development progress, I have come to think that rather than work with meeting a specific schedule as our main objective, and releasing a game that reflects only what we can create within that scheduled time, I feel strongly that our focus should be to bring all these ideas to life in a way that will make The Legend of Zelda on Wii U the best game it can possibly be," explained Aonuma.

"I hope to use the added time to make The Legend of Zelda for Wii U into a game that will reward you for your patience, so thank you for your continued support."

A Zelda game delayed from its original release date? Consider me shocked.

Honestly, wouldn't surprised me if they Twilight Princess'd it and cross-released it with that Nintendo NX thingymabob.

So much for Wii U sales picking up I guess.

But....But...

How will we know if you get the hookshot or fairy bow first?!

Well I got plenty of other games to play until then, so I won't be bored. Also, as much as I love Zelda, I want more information about Persona 5, release date of the second chapter of Legend of Heroes, and more about the new Ys game. Include all the other stuff I have going on, I can easily wait however long for the game to come out. I thought it coming out this year sounded pretty ambitious. Also, at least it'll give an E3 where people can't moan about you rehashing one of the franchises at least.

translation: the Earth was not yet ready for the awesomeness about to be unleashed so they have to reinforce the planet so if can be prepared

Well, we're used to it. Besides, when they try and hit a deadline, you end up being able to tell. (see wind waker's tiny length, twilight princess's final dungeon).

And usually it's a consequence of them trying something they haven't done before. Ocarina of time was delayed by 2 years from when it was first suggested it might be released.

And whatever you might think of that game it was a big deal in a technical sense at the very least.
The first 3d zelda, invented several mechanics that many 3d games use to this day...
But, it obviously took them a long time to get it right...

In other news, bacon tastes great, Comcast is evil, and the sky is blue. I was holding on to one last shred of hope it wouldn't be delayed, but I expected news like this by E3. Guess I got my unwanted wish early.

I just hope they do put more variety into the overworld and dungeons this time. Skyward Sword had a bland skyworld, a typical forest area, typical volcano mountainside area, and, the one standout, the desert area with wibbly wobbly timey wimey timeshift stones that turned the area into a grassy plain and sea. The dungeons weren't much better. The first was bland. The 3rd and 5th used the same timeshift stones and enemies as the area it was in, but at least had unique overlying themes to them. The 4th did give a new take on the water temple, and downplayed water puzzles. But the second and 6th, were two near indistinguishable fire dungeons. Combined with the lagging Wii motion controls, it was a pretty weak entry with a couple good ideas.

I hope they don't do that. Delaying Twilight Princess to make it better is one thing. Delaying it again make a port with tacked on motion controls makes me raise some eyebrows. Delaying the GC release by a month after the Wii one, rubbed salt in the wound.

Indeed. I think Ocarina started development around the same time as Mario 64. The final product was a vast improvement, in both graphics and concept, over what they had shown (and not shown at the time) around 1996. Delays are usually good in the long run.

I'd rather them delay to ensure it's good than to rush it and have it suck.

Huh? We must have completely different consoles because I can turn on my Wii U and be actually playing a game of mario kart quicker than my PS4 reaches the main menu.

On topic: Oh well, I was looking forward to it, but as long as Xenoblade Chronicles X and Splatoon are still on schedule for this year I'll be happy with my Wii U, and there's a few things I'm looking forward to on other consoles and PC that will tide me over for this year.

And there's Devil's Third, Mario Maker, Yoshi's Woolly World, Star Fox, and probably other stuff they haven't announced. Nintendo isn't exactly starved for product.

The news stung pretty bad at first, but the more I thought about it the better I felt. If they are truly trying to make it the best game they can, I'm cool with it.

That being said, this gives me hope that they have something neat for the Fall. Starfox could fill the gap hopefully. Just get me Fire Emblem IF before 2016 and I'll be good to go.

You kidding me!? The hookshot would never be the first item you get. The earliest would be like the third dungeon.

"The Ultimate Zelda Game."

I like some ambition, but that's a hefty order. I just hope they stop trying to repeat Ocarina of Time.
